Reiki Research
How do I know if Reiki will help me? What can the research tell me?
As it stands now, developing and funding a research study can be tricky. Most Reiki research studies have many limitations to them including:
1. Small sample sizes
2. Difficulty in isolating what is and what isn’t a result of Reiki
3. Effects of Reiki are often subtle and cumulative; treatment protocols have to be uniform, however the magic of Reiki is that it is never a one-size-fits-all practice.
4. Often the Reiki practitioner(s) in a study don’t all have the same level of Reiki education or experience.
5. Funding is difficult as there is no business that can make money off of these studies.
Part of what is difficult in Reiki research is that it does not take into account the relationship that develops between the practitioner and the client. There is so much added value in the sharing and the discussions before and after a session. Typically, with my clients, there is a trajectory of growth/change mentally, spiritually and/or physically during a series of Reiki sessions.
In addition, after a Reiki session, clients are often in a very relaxed state and are inspired to make positive changes to their lives. The growth and healing from that is difficult to measure.
How do you quantify the changes that have happened to my clients during a session(s)?
1. Client A came for Reiki because her low back was in a lot of pain. After the first session, we realized that this person has taken on responsibilities that are weighing her down. She had a hard time putting herself first because of the chaos in her life. At the end of the first session, she still had the back pain.
2. Second session we were guided to create a practice for her to continue to work on taking care of herself. Her back pain was still there.
3. The third session her energy felt so much better, she did the homework and by the end of the session her back pain was gone.
How do you quantify that?
On the flip-side
1. Client B came to me because she was recently divorced and finding it challenging to get back to who she wants to be in this next stage of her life. She was looking for some peace and some direction.
2. After the first session she said her neck pain was gone. I had no idea she had neck pain – I just went where the Reiki told me to go.
3. After 4-5 sessions she felt ready to make some changes in her life. I continued to see her until she implemented those changes and had a real sense of self empowerment. Her neck pain has not returned.
How do you quantify those results?
Reiki energy (or any energetic practice) is not a formula with a guaranteed, specific result. Reiki addresses the energy field that is intricately and dynamically connected in ways we don’t fully understand. So we are left with client testimonials as the primary proof that Reiki can help with emotions, pain, mental state, spiritual direction and overall feeling more balanced, centered and at peace.
Stay tuned because the Center for Reiki Research is getting ready to publish some newer studies:
1. A randomized controlled trial of remote Reiki for chronic pain.
2. Harvard has completed a study about Reiki for physical and mental health problems. Information about that study should be out soon.
3. Another study out of the UK is currently going on about remote Reiki for health care professionals.

When the results of those are published I will share them on this page. In the meantime, I’ll be doing Reiki and witnessing the magic in every session. . Reach out to find out how Reiki helps you
