Brain Fog

So for one of my first blog posts I was sure I would be writing something witty and full of wisdom. However, today is the day I set aside to write the blog and I am writing when I have, what I have deemed, a flare up. Since recovering from heart surgery in 2020, I have these times when I am nauseous, dizzy, fatigued and have brain fog for a few days.

So I’m coming at you live, through the fog.

Let’s talk about brain fog. Many more people are dealing with it since Covid as it is a common long Covid symptom. It can lead to lack of motivation, decisions to not do anything too important because your brain just doesn’t feel sharp enough, lots of staring into space, fatigue and other fun things.

Here are the ways I resource myself during these times:

  • I stretch; this helps my body to feel more alive while my brain seems to be on a timeout.

  • I pay attention to my feet by massaging them, stretching them, rolling a tennis ball under them etc. I do these things; to help myself stay grounded and because I know that there are so many energetic meridians on the feet that stimulating them is balancing to my body.

  • I listen to music that calms me. Currently I’m listening to a lot of music with specific hertz frequencies.

  • Give myself some Reiki

  • Stimulate my vagus nerve (that is good for your nervous system).

  • If all else fails, then I Netflix and chill and just wait it out.

I work with a lot of clients who have a chronic illness and most of them report brain fog and one point or another.

Here are some of the things they have told me that have helped:

  1. Cutting out sugar

  2. Taking the right vitamins/minerals (that’s a discussion for you and your physician)

  3. One of my clients draws her way through brain fog.  She draws for herself, to be able to express herself when she can’t find the right words.

  4. Many will binge a show, which they say is all that their brain can handle.

  5. Many have scheduled regular massages to help loosen their neck, head and back muscles

  6. In the warmer weather being outside is often a huge relief for many.

  7. Simple strategies to stimulate your vagus nerve are something I teach my clients- many use these for a little relief.

  8. Receive Reiki to get your energy flowing and experience a little relief

I’m sure there are many more that I’m forgetting through the fog.  If you have brain fog and are tired of going it alone, reach out to me. Let’s get you connected either to myself or others (one-on-one sessions or healing circles), who know what you are experiencing, can offer support and help you develop a plan that works for you.

You are not alone. Reach out for support to deal with these ‘invisible symptoms’.

I’m off to go stare out the window.
